Pfandbrief Banks’ Market Share in Residential Property Finance
According to Deutsche Bundesbank figures, residential property loans to individuals and companies in Germany totalled € 1,100 billion as at end-2010. Thus they were virtually unchanged compared with the previous year. The Deutsche Bundesbank’s bank statistics show the shares that individual banking groups held in domestic residential property finance. Savings banks and credit cooperatives were the main providers of housing loans, with market shares of 28.9% and 19.0% respectively. Regional banks, big banks, real estate credit institutions and building and loan associations each accounted for about 8 to 14% of total lending activity. The vdp Pfandbrief Banks, which belong to different banking groups, together represented total loans (domestic) of € 281 billion or 25.5% of the market.
